Waiting for Mom

by Baby Bear (Bear the Brave)

Every morning, Mom puts on her walking shoes, and every morning I follow her to the door just to make sure she remembers I belong to her. I know she always comes back, but I still feel a little funny in my tummy when the door closes.

Dad says, “She’ll be back soon, Bear.”

I know that. I really do.

But it is my job to wait anyway.

So I lay down by the big doors where I can see outside. I watch the trees move. I watch the birds hop around the bushes. Sometimes a person walks by with another dog, and I sit up very straight because protecting the house is serious business.

Mostly, though, I look for Mom. I know her walk. I know the sound of her shoes on the sidewalk. I know the way the sunlight looks behind her when she comes around the corner.

Dad took this picture while I was waiting. He said I looked “thoughtful.” I do not know exactly what thoughtful means, but maybe it means loving someone so much that you watch the door for them.

Sometimes I think about Uncle Teddy while I wait. Teddy always knew everything. He never worried when Mom left the house. He would just look at me like, “Relax, little guy. Mom always comes home.” I am trying to be brave like Teddy was.

Still, the house feels quieter now, and sometimes I think Mom needs extra love when she comes back through those doors. So when I hear her getting close, my tail starts thumping before I even see her.

Then, finally, there she is. My mom.

The doors open, and I hurry over to greet her because maybe she was only gone a little while, but to me, it feels like the whole morning has been waiting for the best part of the day to come home.

And every single time she smiles and says, “There’s my Baby Bear.”

That is when I know I did my job right.

Mom’s Reflection

This photo touched my heart because it captures something so simple and yet so profound. Bear truly waits for me. Not because he is anxious, but because love makes ordinary moments important.

Dogs have a beautiful way of reminding us that being loved does not require grand gestures. Sometimes love is simply waiting by the door for someone to come home.

And perhaps that is one of life’s greatest comforts of all. ❤️💕🐾
