Tuesday, October 1, in Arnold, CA, we just missed a close encounter with the juvenile bear. This young bear is a frequent visitor that seems to follow the same path through our yard. I love the photographs, but I am always concerned about a personal encounter.

Posted guidelines state that distance equals safety, so as long as we are always cautious and on guard, we should be safe. We are deliberately very noisy and always carry bear spray and bright lights, so hopefully, we won’t have a problem. There are deer, squirrels, and other small animals regularly in our yard that are a possible draw, but there is no trash or other food left out. We never allow Candy or Teddy to roam off-leash either. So we hope that the bear/bears will walk on through, and the only contact will be with my field cameras.
“The more people are aware that wildlife is all around us, even in residential areas, the less surprised they’ll be when a bobcat, a mountain lion, a bear or some other animal shows up right in their yard.”
