If Dogs Ruled the World

Sometimes, when I’m looking at my dogs, Teddy and Bear, I catch myself wondering what life would be like if dogs were in charge. Maybe it’s the way they greet every new face with a wagging tail or how joyously they live in the moment, whatever the reason, I can’t help but think they’d do a better job than we humans at running the show. What would that even look like? Would we all wear collars? Would meal times involve kibble?

Lean in close, it’s Time to imagine life in a world ruled by dogs. Trust me, it’s a lot more inspiring (and hilarious) than you might think.

A World Ruled by Love and Loyalty
Dogs don’t do anything halfway, especially when it comes to loyalty. If dogs ran the world, our leaders wouldn’t measure success by stock markets or polls. Nope, they’d measure it by belly rubs given and tail wags received.

Imagine politicians who never broke promises and always had our backs, just like your dog does when you’re feeling down. Dogs wouldn’t care about borders or differences; they’d only care about whether you’re kind and maybe willing to toss a ball. It’s a heartwarming thought. At the very least, the phrase “cutthroat politics” would quickly become extinct, though I suppose “paw-at-the-door politics” might replace it.

One Time, when I arrived home, I was irritated, tired, and just wanted to crawl into a corner. But the second I walked through the door, there was Teddy and Bear, all jumpy and wagging their tails as if I’d been gone for years, as if I were the most important person in the world. Isn’t that energy something we could all stand to bring into our lives?

Snack Time Would Be Sacred
If dogs had their way, I imagine meal times would happen far more frequently. You know how a dog never says no to a snack? I mean, who’s the hungry one when my dog gives me those puppy eyes while I’m eating a sandwich?

But in a dog-ruled world, sharing wouldn’t just happen across the dinner table; it’d be a fundamental value. Hunger would become an unfamiliar concept because, well, dogs don’t hoard. They’d opt for a world where everyone gets a share of the treats. Food waste? Nonexistent. After all, have you met a dog that wastes food?

Play Would Be Mandatory
If dogs took over, the concept of “all work and no play” would be thrown out the window. Scratch that, windows themselves would probably always be open for sticking our heads out!

Dogs understand something we too often forget as adults: life is meant to be fun. Fetching in the park, splashing in puddles, zoomies just because the mood strikes – all of it would be encouraged, celebrated, and expected. Trust me, your calendar filled with emails and back-to-back meetings could use a splash of this doggo energy.

I’m pretty sure productivity would take a temporary hit while we adjusted to this paws-and-claws leisure culture. But once we embrace it, maybe we’ll realize that a slower, joyfully messy life isn’t such a bad thing after all.

Nap Time = Law
To balance all that play, napping would become an unalienable right. Imagine this scenario for just a second:
You’ve had a tough morning making new friends at the park (mandatory in this world), so you return home, and it’s nap time. No guilt, no shame, just a soft blanket, a sunny patch on the floor, and maybe the soothing sound of a distant vacuum cleaner (if you’re not afraid of that sort of thing).

Life ruled by dogs would be better for our mental health. No hustle culture, only “snuggle and snooze” culture. And honestly, wouldn’t we all be the better for it?

Grievances Would Last Only a Minute
Most of us could learn something from how quickly dogs forgive. Step on a tail? A quick “sorry” and a rub on the head, and it’s like it never happened. Dogs don’t stew over slights or carry grudges, so a world they ran would be brimming with second chances. No conflicts simmering for decades, no bitterness, just acknowledgment, maybe a lick on the face, and the pitter-patter of moving on.

Unconditional Love for All
And finally, can you picture what unconditional love would feel like on a global scale? That’s what dogs bring to the table. They don’t care what you wear, how much you earn, or whether you remembered to text back. All they see is you, their person, and that’s enough for them.
Somewhere in all this whimsical imagining, there’s an undeniable truth we could all start living now. Dogs teach us how to slow down, forgive more easily, and love others just as they are.

If you ask me, they’ve already started ruling the world in their four-pawed way. Maybe we need to pay more attention to them, and less to the noise.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, there are two furry CEOs over here asking for a walk. Priorities, right?
