Planting my first GreenStalk Garden Container

Planting my first GreenStalk Garden container was like stepping into a new chapter of my gardening adventure. I’ve always been drawn to the charm of container gardening, the way it brings splashes of green and bursts of color to the cozy corners of my space. This time, however, I decided to venture further up with a vertical stacker, the GreenStalk Garden container. Its unique design allows for efficient use of space, and its self-watering system ensures that my plants are always hydrated, even during the hottest summer days.

Note: I purchased two of the GreenStalk planting system stackers from the GreenStalk Garden website listed below. Easy to understand planting and care instructions came with each unit.

The process of choosing what to plant was a delightful surprise. My heart was drawn to the vivacious reds of geraniums and the playful dance of colorful violas. The act of envisioning these blooms, stretching towards the heavens, and embracing the sun and sky from their lofty abode, filled me with a sense of joy and anticipation.

I am familiar with the basics of gardening. However, I must admit, the task of vertical planting was not without its challenges. As I set up each tier of the Green Stalk container, I found myself struggling to balance the soil and the plants. It was a learning curve, but one that I embraced with excitement and a touch of apprehension. Half-filling the tiers with soil was a trick I learned as I went, which made planting the geraniums and violas much more manageable. Their tender and promising roots nestled into their new bed, surrounded by the nurturing earth.

The gray discs that came with the stacker needed some attention, too. Placing them on top, ensuring each plant pocket was aligned right, was like piecing together a living puzzle, each part critical to the whole. And then, the moment of truth – watering. The ritual felt different this time; pouring water into the top reservoir and watching it cascade, overflow, and trickle down through the tiers was almost therapeutic. The sound of the water, the feel of the moist soil, and the sight of the plants eagerly drinking-it was a sensory experience that I looked forward to every day.

Every day since has been a narrative of growth and learning. I cherish checking my vertical garden, ensuring it has enough water, and watching how the morning sun dapples through the leaves. Adjusting the watering, sometimes giving the violas and geraniums a gentle mist, has become a part of my daily rhythm. I also make it a point to regularly check the soil moisture and adjust the watering schedule accordingly. This level of care and attention has been rewarding, as I see my plants thriving and blooming.

The maintenance guide that whispered hints to me in those first days now dances in my memory, a reminder that caring for these plants is as much about the process as it is about the result. The advice to keep the garden in full sun was like a secret shared between friends, and now, as I witness the flourishing blooms, I’m filled with a sense of pride and wonder.

This experience, planting my first Green Stalk Garden container, has been about more than gardening. It’s been a reflection of the growth, patience, and care that nurturing living things demands and deserves. I see a story unfolding in each leaf and bloom, a chapter I’m grateful to be part of. The joy I feel when I see a new bud, the satisfaction of a successful harvest, and even the occasional disappointment when a plant doesn’t thrive-these emotions are all part of the journey, and they make the experience all the more meaningful.

The GreenStalk Garden planter is placed in a sunny location where it should receive sun all day.
I chose red geraniums and colorful violas for this arrangement. I planted in a staggered pattern.
