Dehydrating Bananas and Strawberries

I recently wrote a blog about why I purchased a food dehydrator, and so far, the only fruit I’ve tried dehydrating are bananas and strawberries. Since this is a new learning process, I want to share my experience with you.

To recap, dehydrating fruit is an excellent way to store your favorite fruits for longer so you can enjoy their taste and nutritional benefits all year round. This process involves removing the water from the fruit, which helps keep its nutrients intact while preserving a longer shelf life. Not only that but dehydrating also intensifies the sweetness of many types of fruits like bananas and strawberries, making them even more enjoyable to eat!

I purchased two large bunches of bananas.
I purchased a large box of Strawberries.

Bananas are one of the best fruits to dehydrate as they become flavorful chips high in potassium, dietary fiber, and antioxidants. Strawberries also dehydrate well due to their small size, allowing them to maintain beautiful shapes after drying out. In addition, dehydrated strawberries still retain most of their Vitamin C content and can be a delicious, healthy snack.

Dehydrating fruits is relatively easy compared to other food preservation methods as it does not involve additional ingredients or additives that could make the fruit less nutritious or harmful to Teddy and Bear.

To dehydrate fruits at home, you will need an oven or dehydrator. I bought a dehydrator with six racks. After washing and slicing the fruit, I place each piece of fruit on the wire mesh rack and then slide the rack back into the dehydrator. Next, following the recipe, I will dehydrate the fruit until they reach the desired texture (which can take anywhere from 6-12 hours). Once finished, store the dehydrated fruit in an airtight container and enjoy!

I sliced the bananas in 1/4" slicesand placed them on the dehydrator racks.
I set the temperature to 135 degress F. for 10 hours.
The dehydrated banana chips retained their sweet flavor!
The dehydrated banana filled a little more than a quart storage bag.
I used a tool to hull the strawberries before slicing.
I placed the sliced strawberries on the dehydrator racks, then set the temperature to 135 degrees F. and the time to six hours.
The dehydrated fruit is reduced in size, easily stored, and always ready for a quick snack.
Teddy and Bear love the banana chips, and I am confident of the ingredients -- banana.

Dehydrating fruits like bananas and strawberries is a great way to get maximum nutrition and flavor out of your favorite fruits. Dehydrating is a simple and healthy food preservation method and intensifies the sweetness of many fruits for added enjoyment. Why not try dehydrating and storing your fruit for longer so you can enjoy them year-round?

Did you know dehydrating fruits can help you get more nutrition and flavor from your favorite fruits?

I will continue to share the process of each fruit I dehydrate.
