Dr. Teddy and Candy

The month of May has not been easy. I can’t seem to prevent myself from worrying about the health of everyone in my family. Luckily no one, young or old, has COVID-19, but the constant discussion on the cable news channels and social media seems to be messing with my mind. I am trying to do the correct/recommended things, but being isolated, I don’t have the opportunity to talk to friends face-to-face and sort out my concerns.

On top of that, my furry children, Teddy and Candy, have been struggling! Teddy who is usually sturdy and robust, became very ill, and Candy experienced a dramatic injury.

Teddy developed gastrointestinal problems and a severe hotspot on his neck. I’ve never heard of a “Hot spot” before. After the Doctor shaved Teddy’s neck area for treatment, I was horrified by the severity! On top of that, he had a painful ear infection. He must have felt terrible! I felt such guilt!

Poor Teddy needed time to recover, but I expected things to get better with appropriate medication and care. After a few days, things did improve. No more vomiting or diarrhea, and the hot spot on his neck and ear improved. Whew!

Teddy was very tired.
Teddy laid in his empty pool.

Candy’s 14th birthday was beautiful! The next day, however, disaster struck. Candy tore a growth on her face by scratching too vigorously, and I couldn’t stop the bleeding. The wound bled excessively and required a pressure bandage.

The pressure bandage was so tight!
The pressure bandage was so tight that her little eyes were squished closed, and the tip of her tongue stuck out.
After the pressure bandage was removed the initial bandaging needed to remain.

A week later, following the Doctor’s recommendation, the mass was removed, and Candy is now recovering and doing much better than expected. This month we have spent a lot of time at the Veterinary Hospital. Fortunately, we love the Doctor and her staff, well, maybe not Teddy.

Candy's pretty little face looks so much better after the removal of the mass. The stitches will be removed after two weeks.

Even though, I am very grateful that no one in my immediate human family has COVID-19, I find that caring for Candy and Teddy helps me get out of myself. It is much better for me to put my energy into caring for them!

  1. May I simply just say what a relief to uncover an individual who
really knows what they are talking about online. You actually understand how to bring
an issue to light and make it important. A lot more people should look at
this and understand this side of your story. I was surprised that
you aren’t more popular given that you certainly possess
    the gift.
