Magical Place

The property in Arnold is unique. Wow, is that an understatement or what! Where else could I safely observe and study wildlife as I can here? But I also feel mentally and physically better! I experience a noticeable spike in creativity, and I’ve also noticed that Candy is physically stronger. Perhaps the high altitude, the plentiful oxygen-producing pine trees, or the quiet. I am not a scientist, but I expect it to be a result of the higher oxygen level. Whatever it is, both Candy and I respond positively.

There is beautiful scenery everywhere.

The towering sequoias in Arnold, the massive oxygen generators, are noble giants.  They stand like ridged solders with their limbs reaching hundreds of feet towards the sun or draping at their sides.

The Calaveras Big Trees State Park Visitor Center
I was lucky to have an opportunity to talk to one of the Park Rangers.

The Calaveras Big Trees State Park is close to our property and awe-inspiring to visit. The park is the home to some of the world’s most giant trees. It is very humbling to be in the presence of these magnificent trees!

“Calaveras Big Trees State Park established in 1931, Calaveras Big Trees State Park preserves two groves of giant sequoias – the world’s largest trees – in the North and South Groves. The park is a mixed-conifer forest (a variety of trees living together). In addition to the giant trees, the Stanislaus River, Beaver Creek, ancient volcanic formations, and natural meadows are all in the park. Trails throughout the park allow you to discover the natural beauty that has awed visitors to the area since 1852.”

I read a book titled The Hidden Life of Trees by Peter WohlanBen, and the author describes how trees communicate chemically rather than verbally. But the wind blowing through these ethereal ancient trees is a sound I can hear, and I like to believe that the trees are speaking to me.

Peaceful area with visible game trail.
This young tree is being nutured by the mother tree, and the youthful color is so bright and cheery.
Evening view of the noble trees with the moon visible.

The new world resulting from COVID-19 and my daily routine both crush my creativity and enthusiasm. So the opportunity to observe and study the forest and it’s inhabitants is outstanding! Watching the large predators up close and personal is both scary and exciting. I am pulled out of my comfort zone and liberated.
