National Spaghetti Day

Knowing that I love to cook and favor Italian food, my sister-in-law gave me one of Lidia Matticchio Bastianich’s cookbooks, Lidia’s A Pot, A Pan, and A Bowl. My sister-in-law also included Lidia’s sauce and spaghetti. I was anxious to try it, and January 4th was National Spaghetti Day. Perfect, huh?

Lidia Matticchio Bastianich is a renowned celebrity chef and author known for her delicious Italian cooking. Born in Italy to a Croatian family, Lidia grew up with her family’s traditional recipes that she has since shared with the world.

She began her career as an intern at a Parma restaurant in Italy before immigrating to the United States in 1958. After arriving in America, Lidia continued to pursue her passion for food by working in several restaurants and teaching various cooking classes throughout New York City.

In 1989, Lidia opened her restaurant – Felidia – on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, quickly becoming famous for its excellent Italian cuisine in true Lidia style. In 1997, she released her first cookbook, Lidia’s Italian-American Kitchen, which became a bestseller.

Since then, Lidia has developed several more successful businesses and published other cookbooks featuring her family recipes. She also starred in her show Lidia’s Italy and co-authored two children’s books with her granddaughters, Tanya and Anna.

Today, Lidia is considered one of the leading figures in the culinary world due to her delicious Italian dishes, Progresso products endorsement, cooking classes, and media appearances. With so many successes under her belt, there is no doubt that Lidia Matticchio Bastianich will continue to be an inspiration for years to come.

No matter where she goes, Lidia always brings her heritage with her and continues to share the flavor of Italy with everyone. By celebrating Italian culture, food, and family recipes, Lidia has impacted home cooks and professional chefs worldwide.

National Spaghetti Day is a fun holiday observed annually on January 4th. It celebrates the beloved Italian dish, spaghetti! National Spaghetti Day is believed to have started in the United States in the late 1970s. The National Pasta Association (NPA) declared National Spaghetti Day to promote their product and celebrate its place in American culture.

I prefer a thick sauce for spaghetti. However, Lidia's sauce was relatively thin, so I sliced cherry tomatoes and cooked them in Olive Oil, chopped garlic, salt and pepper, and Italian seasoning. I found them delicious.

On National Spaghetti Day, people worldwide come together to enjoy delicious pasta dishes with family or friends. Many families even make recipes for traditional spaghetti dishes like spaghetti Bolognese or carbonara so they can share them with loved ones. Restaurants often offer special discounts and promotions on National Spaghetti Day, making indulging in some delicious spaghetti even easier. National Spaghetti Day is a great excuse to break out the red and white checkered tablecloth and have a classic Italian dinner!

I also prepared garlic bread using Italian bread. Jim preferred his spaghetti without the cherry tomatoes.
On the other hand, I love adding tomatoes and lots of parmesan cheese!

No matter how you celebrate National Spaghetti Day, it will be an enjoyable event. Whether gathering around the dinner table with family or enjoying a special restaurant promotion, National Spaghetti Day is a great way to appreciate this delicious dish millions worldwide have enjoyed for many years. So on January 4th or any day, grab your fork and celebrate National Spaghetti Day in style!

Happy National Spaghetti Day!
