Peanut Butter Doggie Cookies

I am always searching for healthy recipes for Teddy and Bear. In the cookbook Doggy Desserts by Cheryl Gianfrancesco, on page 50, I found the following recipe for Peanut Butter Carob Cookies. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the carob power, so I didn’t include it. Nevertheless, these are the cookies I made for Teddy’s birthday. They are safe for our canine babies, not as a food replacement but as a reward or snack.

Ingriedients:

  • 6 tablespoons all-natural applesauce, no sugar added
  • 1/4 cup of honey
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup all-natural peanut butter, no salt or sugar added
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups unbleached white flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup carob powder
  • two eggs
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda

Steps:

  1. In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients.
  2. Make 1-inch balls with the dough. Place the balls 3 inches apart on a baking sheet. With the fork, flatten each ball, leaving indent marks from the fork.
  3. Bake at 350° for 10 to 12 minutes. When done, the cookie should be firm to the touch.
  4. Turn off the oven, and leave the cookies in for one to two hours to harden. Yield: approximately 55 cookies

I ate one of the cookies, and they were too bland for my tastes, but Teddy and Bear loved them.
Jim and I sang "Happy Birthday" and gave each poochie boy a little piece of the cookie.
