Ask Dr. Teddy: Why Humans Need Naps Too

Some days seem to spin too fast, the to-do list is long, the news is noisy, and even the dogs seem to sense the weight in the air. That’s when I like to turn things over to my in-house expert on calm living and soulful rest: Dr. Teddy. Today, he’s offering some wise (and very fluffy) advice on the importance of slowing down, for humans and golden retrievers alike.

Why Humans Need Naps Too

By Dr. Teddy

Hello again, my wonderful friends! Dr. Teddy here, your favorite golden retriever philosopher, reporting live from a sunbeam on the living room carpet. I’m conducting a very important study today on one of my favorite topics: the nap.

Now, you humans seem to think naps are for babies and dogs. I assure you, this is false information. As a nap expert (self-certified and highly practiced), I believe naps are essential for maintaining a healthy mind, a calm heart, and an irresistibly glossy coat of patience.

Let me explain.

When the world feels too noisy, when there’s too much rushing, scrolling, and worrying, I do what any wise golden would do. I find a soft spot, circle three times, and let the nap work its magic. After all, a nap isn’t just sleeping; it’s recharging your soul battery.

I’ve noticed humans often fight naps. You yawn, stretch, and say things like, “I don’t have time,” or “I’ll rest later.” Meanwhile, you’re blinking at your computer screen, your coffee’s gone cold, and your brain is basically running on low-battery mode.

The Bear power napping.

That’s when I like to demonstrate what I call the:

Golden Nap Technique.

Step 1: Find your comfort zone.

Pick a cozy place: a couch, a chair, or even the grass under your favorite tree. (Bonus points for sunshine.)

Step 2: Perform three gentle circles.

This is critical. It aligns your energy, fluffs your imaginary fur, and tells your brain, “It’s okay to rest.”

Step 3: Surrender completely.

Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and let the world spin without you for a while. You’ll wake up softer, kinder, and maybe even inspired.

Napping isn’t giving up on the day; it’s giving the day another chance to be better.

When Mom naps, I always nap too. Sometimes I’ll rest my paw on her arm, just to remind her that she’s not alone in slowing down. Because the truth is, love, like a good nap, is contagious.

So, my dear humans, this is your gentle prescription from Dr. Teddy: Take the nap. The dishes can wait. The world will still be there when you wake up. And when you do, I promise it will look just a little bit brighter.

Until next time, keep wagging, keep resting, and don’t forget to fluff your pillows.

Sweet dreams,

Dr. Teddy 🐾

P.S. Bear says he’s available for napping demonstrations. Rates include one cuddle and a snore soundtrack.
