Teddy and Bear’s Christmas Eve Promise

On Christmas Eve, Teddy and Bear will wake up with a significant feeling.

They don’t know the date.
They don’t know what Christmas Eve means on a calendar.
But they know something is different.

The house feels softer.
The light feels warmer.
And Mom moves just a little more slowly, as if the day itself has asked everyone to be gentle.

Teddy notices first. He always does.
He lifts his head, ears slightly tilted, taking in the quiet. This is a good quiet. The kind that feels safe. He stretches, yawns, and gives a satisfied little sigh, as if to say, Yes. This is exactly where I’m supposed to be.

Bear, on the other hand, is already awake.
He has important responsibilities. Like making sure everyone is together. Like checking to see if today might involve treats. Like leaning his whole body into love the moment he gets the chance.

They will follow mom from room to room, not because they need anything, but because that’s what they do.
Presence is their gift.
Togetherness is their job.

They don’t ask for much.
A kind word.
A familiar voice.
A place at mom’s feet or beside her on the couch.

What they give, though, is everything.

They give comfort without question.
Joy without conditions.
Loyalty without limits.

They don’t know about past years or future worries.
They only know now.
And in the now, Mom is here, and that is enough.

As evening settles in, Teddy curls up close, peaceful and steady.
Bear makes sure there’s at least one paw touching, just in case love needs a reminder.
And somewhere between bedtime and magic, Santa will remember Teddy and Bear.
He will bring each of them their very favorite toy in the whole world, a bright yellow rubber ball.
The only kind Santa could find that they couldn’t destroy.

They won’t care about the wrapping.
They won’t care if the tree lights blink or stay steady.
They will care that morning comes.
That mom is there.
And that joy, once again, the bright yellow ball fits perfectly in their mouths.
This is their Christmas Eve promise, the one they keep every year without ever saying it out loud:

We are here.
We will stay.
You are never alone.

And honestly, the gift of unconditional love is the greatest gift of all.
