The hillside location of the Arnold house is home to numerous wild animals. Both large predators and the typical prey species (i.e., deer, turkeys, squirrels, birds, rabbitts, and rodents, etc.) live there. One of my field cameras captured a photo of a medium-sized predator, a Bobcat. Bobcats are elusive and nocturnal, so I feel very fortunate to have this photo. Bobcats move stealthily through the mountain and forest areas around the house.
Bobcats are larger than the average housecat, they have long legs, large paws, tufted ears, and a short, black-tipped tail.
Camera 2 – 10/15/2018 – This is the only photograph I have of a Bobcat, and it was taken by the field camera located in front of our garage.
According to the National Geographic, Bobcats are “fierce hunters, and can kill prey much bigger than themselves, but usually eat rabbits, birds, mice, squirrels, and other smaller game.” We definitely have an abundance of those animals living around the house.
