How Our Lives Changed Because Of COVID-19

COVID-19 is a horrific virus that spread worldwide and caused over 3 million deaths. Thankfully my family suffered no loss of life, though some members contracted COVID and some very recently. But, unfortunately, COVID is still out there.

The COVID-19 pandemic upended my way of life. It changed virtually every aspect of how my family and I live, work, and interact. We followed the CDC guidelines and are currently up to date with our vaccinations and booster shots; under certain circumstances, we still wear masks. My family was lucky as we all survived. So I can reflect on the experience. Although COVID-19 brought hardships, it has also provided opportunities for growth and resilience.

Health is a primary concern when discussing COVID-19. For instance, we modified our lifestyles substantially to reduce the risk of transmission and keep ourselves safe. Social distancing measures, avoiding large gatherings and busy places, have become commonplace. In addition, wearing masks and washing our hands frequently are essential steps that continue today to protect ourselves and others from infection.

When it came to working, countries worldwide implemented lockdowns and other restrictions to curb the spread of COVID-19. For example, in Uganda, my two sponsored girls, Zam and Monica, missed two years of school because the Ugandan government closed all educational facilities to stop the spread. In the United States, there was a significant shift in how people work, with many opting to work from home. Companies worldwide also adapted their operations to fit the new normal, implementing safety measures and employee protocols that comply with COVID-19 guidelines.

The pandemic also changed how we interact with one another. With social distancing being necessary, most interactions were digital rather than face-to-face. Zoom meetings, Skype calls, and other virtual communication methods have become second nature as people look for ways to stay connected while staying apart. Because of this new trend, I have attended online classes, zoom meetings and toured remote locations worldwide. Groceries are delivered to my front door; even prescriptions are delivered, and with DoorDash, you can have restaurant meals delivered.

Because of the new lifestyle resulting from COVID, I have spent time improving my writing, photography, and editing skills. In addition, I am proud to say that I have become a Home Cook! I am learning to make so many meals from scratch. In addition, I am making more food treats for Teddy and Bear without preservatives and dangerous sugars. So I have continued to grow through difficult times.

It is clear that COVID-19 caused tremendous upheavals in our lives, but it is also evident that we have been able to adapt and create new ways of living. While COVID-19 has forced us to make drastic changes, it has also opened opportunities for innovation, resilience, and growth.

By understanding the impact COVID-19 has had on our lives, we can be better prepared to face future challenges and emerge stronger than before. This pandemic reminds us how much our lives can change when faced with adversity—but it’s also a sign that if we work together, we can overcome anything and continue to grow.

Note: I want to thank all of the Scientists and Medical teams that worked tirelessly to discover health guidelines and the vaccines that ultimately saved many.

  1. Very informative. It’s really strange to me how this illness got into the United States and was transmitted to so many people.

    1. Hi Karen, The best I can determine from my limited research is that the speed at which COVID traveled worldwide was primarily attributed to international travel. As people traveled from one country or region to another, they unknowingly carried the virus with them and unwittingly caused it to spread from place to place. As a result, we were all vulnerable because we had no immunity to the virus.
