Walk to End Alzheimer’s – East Bay Area

I actively support three noble charities: The Walk to End Alzheimer’s, The Children of Grace, and Adopt-A-Native-Elder. I am going to discuss each charity individually.

The Walk To End Alzheimer’s

2022 Walk to End Alzheimer’s – East Bay Area

It is hard to believe that the last time our team participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s was in 2019. However, because of the pandemic, 2020 and 2021 were challenging and life-changing years for all of us. For the safety of all participants, the 2020 Walk to End Alzheimer’s was virtual. Then in 2021, both the physical and virtual walks resumed. Unfortunately, I was still concerned for my team members’ health, so I chose not to participate in the physical Walk.

This year’s goal is for our team, For Aunt Lorraine, to participate in the physical Walk again. Our motivation is as strong as ever to raise funding for a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia! Science has made positive progress in preventing and treating COVID, but throughout the past two years, Alzheimer’s has remained relentless and much remains to be done to advance the care, support, and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association®

Note: Typically each team member wears a matching shirt displaying the team name and listing the names of those family members and friends that are afflicted with Alzheimer's, but in September 2019 we had an explosion in our house and were completely displaced. There wasn't enough time to replace the shirts that were lost. We felt participating was more important.

The number of walk participants is always awesome!

“The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is the world’s largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. This inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to join the fight against the disease. While there is no fee to register for Walk, all participants are encouraged to raise critical funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support and advance research toward methods of prevention, treatment, and, ultimately, a cure.”

This is a photo of our Aunt Lorraine, whose bravery and struggle inspired us to form a team, "For Aunt Lorraine," in 2010 and walk every year (except 2020 & 2021) in the Walk to END Alzheimer's.
The members of our team grew over time and our complete team appears in this photo.
Pre-COVID participation

I know that there are many critical issues and causes chipping away currently at everyone’s budget, but if you can, please consider donating to the Walk to END Alzheimer’s. Please consider helping to change lives. Also, please remember that no donation amount is too small. Every dollar you donate helps the Alzheimer’s Association® provide care and support to those facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia and advance critical research.

So many of us have close family members and friends affected by this disease that I suggest you consider establishing your team. Perhaps honoring a loved one as our team does. The Alzheimer’s website will walk you through each step.
