Geraniums

I love Geraniums! I love the variety of colors and the ease of care. I am learning to garden and encourage you to consider adding geraniums to your garden, flower pots, any container and hanging hay racks. I have filled my yard with these beautiful plants.

Geraniums are a delightful addition to any garden thanks to their vibrant colors and easy maintenance. Geraniums are an excellent choice for those new to gardening like me or simply looking for low-maintenance plant options. These flowers are known for their ability to thrive in various soil types and require minimal care. Whether used as border plants, in hanging baskets, or as vibrant patches of color among other flowers, geraniums are a versatile and reliable choice for adding a splash of beauty to any outdoor space.

These lovely annuals come in various shades, ranging from deep red to delicate pink to crisp white to warm salmon. The flowers themselves are striking, often boasting a large size that draws the eye. Depending on the variety of geranium chosen, the leaves can be either textured or smooth, adding even more visual interest to the plant. And, as if that wasn’t enough, some people find the scent of geraniums quite pleasant, making them a sensory delight as well. With such a range of desirable qualities, it’s no wonder geraniums are a popular choice for flower beds and containers alike.

Caring for geraniums is simple – they require full sun (at least 5 hours per day) and well-draining soil with a pH between 5.5 and 6.8. When the top inch of soil feels dry, water thoroughly. Fertilize every two weeks with a balanced fertilizer, such as 10-10-10 or 12-12-12. Finally, Deadhead spent blooms to encourage new growth and dead foliage to keep the plant looking its best.

In areas where temperatures dip below freezing in winter, the geraniums should be moved before the first frost and kept in a warm place. Growing your geraniums outdoors in the colder zones year-round must be mulched heavily during cold months. My garden is in zone 9b, so the winter temperatures typically don’t drop too low.

For gardeners seeking low-maintenance but beautiful plants, geraniums are an ideal choice. These fragrant and colorful blooms add a pop of color to any garden or balcony with minimal effort. In addition, geraniums require minimal care and attention, making them perfect for those new to gardening or with busy schedules. With their long blooming season, you can enjoy their vibrant colors and fragrances throughout the summer. From shades of pink and red to deep purples and soft whites, there are countless varieties of geraniums to choose from, ensuring a stunning and unique display for any garden.
