How “Black Friday” Went from a Small Shopping Event to a National Phenomenon

Do you shop on Black Friday? I never have, but I am curious why so many people do.

More personal research is needed.

Black Friday is synonymous with holiday shopping, but when did this extravaganza start? The term “Black Friday” was first used in the 1960s to describe the heavy traffic and congestion that occurred the day after Thanksgiving. At that time, most retailers were closed on Thanksgiving Day, so the day after was always one of the year’s busiest shopping days. However, Black Friday has recently become more than a busy shopping day. For many retailers, it is now the busiest and most important sales day of the year. Black Friday has become so important to retail businesses that many stores open their doors on Thanksgiving Day to get a head start on the holiday shopping rush. As a result, Black Friday has become a nationwide phenomenon, with shoppers braving long lines and crowds searching for the best deals on holiday gifts. Whether you love it or hate it, there’s no denying that Black Friday is now an essential part of holiday shopping culture.

So if you participate in shopping the Black Friday sales, mark your calendars for this holiday season’s Black Friday rush! Black Friday has become one of the most anticipated shopping events of the year, and stores have gone to great lengths to offer shoppers unbeatable deals and discounts. In recent years, we have seen black Friday sales start earlier and earlier, with some stores even opening their doors on Thanksgiving Day. And with more and more people shopping online, Black Friday is no longer just a one-day event – it’s now a week-long sales extravaganza. So whether you’re looking for the best deals on electronics, clothing, or just about anything else, be sure to keep an eye out for black Friday ads in the weeks leading up to the big day.

I think I'll just stay home.
